Instead, our ship docked for an overnight in Cobh, Ireland, and we had two days to explore this destination. Despite the change in schedule, this cruise ended up being one of my all-time favorites. These shows are on repeat for a few months so if you do back to back cruising, you will likely need to see the same show twice. Overall, we thought the Norwegian Star was a great older cruise ship capable of providing an excellent cruise vacation. Some of our personal favorite bars and lounges onboard were the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, the Proof Whiskey Bar, and the Bliss Ultra Lounge. There were also two small desk spaces for guests to charge their electronics and devices.

There are numerous bars you can visit around the ship with our favorites being Gatsbys, the Mojito bar, the Bliss lounge and the Whisky bar. If we are traveling in a group, as we were on this cruise, we usually buy the beverage package as it is more economical if you are consuming a bit of grog. Norwegian often offers “Free at Sea” promos where they throw in the beverage package into the price of the cruise for a few hundred extra. PARKING:

Generally, we travel through a VERY calm and safe area. The only external movement the boat will receive is passing boat wakes from other boaters. There are very few natural waves or swells in this area because of Crane Beach acting as a great barrier for our beautiful estuary. In some instances however, due to passing boat wakes, a very small amount of water may trickle down the deck of the boat.

Both vessels are safe, comfortable, and easy to board, and are equipped with a PA system, iPod compatible sound system featuring Bose speakers, bar and restroom on board for your convenience. Parking is the biggest hurdle for non-resident paddlers wishing to access the Essex River. The Essex Town Landing at 66 Main Street is the best option, although it requires a paddle of around 1.5 miles to reach the more open stretches of Essex Bay and the islands. The backside of Crane Beach is at least another 1.5 miles further. This can make for a rather strenuous day, especially for beginners. A popular destination for day-trippers is the backside of Crane Beach, where you can have a beautiful stretch of white sand all to yourself. There are stowaway compartments located under some of the seats.
